What Can Be Funded?

inm supports artistic projects in the field of contemporary music that demonstrate a high level of artistic quality. Funding is provided for artistic and artistically informative event projects by professional artists, curators and independent groups. These include concerts with premieres and returning productions, smaller festivals, composition commissions, sound installations and occasionally educational projects that focus on artistic approaches. Special attention is given to the promotion of concerts and individual projects. Special importance is placed on funding individual concerts and projects. inm is considered aesthetically and structurally open, supporting projects from the fields of new music, sound art, Echzeitmusik and improvisation, concerts with theatrical approach, as well as electronic and electro-acoustic music, among other styles. International collaborations are possible and encouraged. Applicants must be professionally active musicians. This does not exclude the involvement of amateurs; however, purely amateur music projects are excluded from the application process. Projects that exclusively involve the physical production of audio and video media are not eligible for funding. inm places an emphasis on balancing the promotion both of established structures that have grown over the years and projects by new players.

Jury / Allocation of Funds

The call for proposals is subject to the availability of the necessary funding in due time. Applications are reviewed by the inm jury, which makes funding recommendations. The jury meeting takes place at the end of the year to decide on the funding for the following calendar year. The funding decisions are announced by email. Members of the Jury, the Board and inm staff are not eligible to apply for funding. After funding has been approved, members of the Jury cannot be called into the projects as new participants. 

The Jury pays attention to the following criteria when selecting projects:

• Quality of the artistic project and the previous work of the applicants
• Feasibility and plausibility of the project
• Positioning and complementing the city's cultural offerings
• Representation and inclusion of the city's social and cultural diversity in implementation and audience appeal
• Inclusion of people with disabilities
• Applications that do not sufficiently take into account the goal of gender equality in the respective project within the possible framework of the artistic/content-related specifications generally have a lower chance of being funded. Gender equality applies to all participating artists (including composers, curators and, if applicable, other staff members who are key to the project).
